A two-week bag becomes manageable when you pack for the longest gap between laundry opportunities, not for fourteen completely separate days. The useful limit is what you can move comfortably through the journey you have planned: stations, hotel entrances, stairs and the occasional uneven pavement.
Start with the route. A city trip, a mountain stay and a journey spanning different climates need different bags. There is no single packing list that makes those differences disappear.
Build a small clothing system
Choose items that work together and can be worn in more than one combination. Set aside what the forecast requires for the coldest or wettest part of the trip, then remove duplicate items that serve the same purpose.
Plan laundry before relying on it. Check whether your accommodation offers a service, what it costs and when clothes return. If you intend to wash small items yourself, consider where they can dry without damaging the room or hanging them where prohibited.
Pack for moving day
Keep the passport and travel details you need accessible without opening the whole bag. Use a small pouch for charging equipment and another for the items you want during a train journey. Arrange valuables so that you can account for them in shared spaces.
Try lifting and carrying the packed bag before departure. A case that rolls well on a flat floor can still be awkward on stairs or a final walk through a narrow lane. Ask properties about luggage access rather than assuming that every entrance has a lift or vehicle drop-off.
| Keep accessible | Pack deeper in the bag |
|---|---|
| Travel document and current journey details | Clothing not needed during the transfer |
| Items needed during the journey | Laundry and spare layers in separate pouches |
| A small charging kit, subject to transport rules | Items you will only use after check-in |
Check batteries before you leave
Transport rules should decide which power bank travels with you. CAAC’s domestic-flight notice prohibits power banks without a clear CCC mark and recalled models. Do not assume an item accepted on an international flight will therefore be accepted on a later domestic flight.
Read the current airline and railway restrictions for batteries, liquids and other controlled items. Do not remove labels that identify a battery’s rating. If a necessary item is restricted, resolve the issue with the operator before reaching security.
Leave a little room
You may buy something, carry food for a transfer or need to pack a damp outer layer separately. A bag filled to its limit on departure has no room for those ordinary changes.
Avoid buying equipment simply because a generic checklist includes it. Pack the things your actual route and personal needs require, and keep enough space that you can find them. The reward for a smaller bag is not an aesthetic achievement; it is one less difficult task on the days when you move.
